The Next Step in the Dance

Bookshop name Slightly Foxed
recommendation I am a big fan of the marvellous Mr B’s Emporium of Books, an independent bookshop in Bath and staunch supporter of Slightly Foxed. So when I heard of their new publishing venture I couldn’t wait to get my hands on a copy of one of their publications. Fox, Finch & Tepper share similar sensibilities with Slightly Foxed as they are reissuing books they love that have fallen out of print. Judging by the beautifully jacketed The Next Step in the Dance, this venture will be a great success. I was transported to Louisiana, where I experienced killer dance moves and bar brawls and met the wonderful outspoken character of Colette. Hungry for life and armed with a ‘tongue like a fillet knife’, she heads to California. But her husband Paul and her Tiger Island home refuse to let her go so easily, testing their relationship to its limit. Steeped in a dark and brooding romanticism, this novel packs an emotional punch.
